On Tuesday 26th June 2018 at 6pm, Teatro alla Scala and Fondazione Abbado organise in the Toscanini Foyer an homage to Claudio Abbado in the day of his 85th anniversary of birth with the public talk “Claudio Abbado and the rediscovery of Fierrabras”, thanks to the support of Fedora – The European Circle of Philanthropists of Opera and Ballet.
The new production of Schubert’s Fierrabras (on stage for the first time at La Scala from 5th to 30th June 2018 with Daniel Harding conducting and the stage direction by Peter Stein) is indeed an ideal occasion to commemorate Abbado’s life and work, since it was one of his long-lasting dream to bring this opera in Milan after having revealed it to the world in Vienna in 1988.
The event will retrace the modern rebirth of this score, from that historical Viennese edition by Ruth Berghaus and Claudio Abbado until today’s production, with the participation of Daniele Abbado, Alexander Pereira and contributions by Daniel Harding and Josef Proteschka, tenor in the 1988 performances.
