Democrats Abroad

Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party arm for the millions of Americans living outside the United States. We strive to provide Americans abroad a Democratic voice in our government and elect Democratic candidates by mobilizing the overseas vote.

Democrats Abroad has 52 country committees throughout Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. These country committees keep Americans abroad informed of their rights and help them participate in the U.S. political process. Our members live in more than 190 countries around the globe and vote in every state and Congressional district in the U.S.

Democrats Abroad is recognized as a “state” Party by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and is represented on the DNC by eight voting members, as well as at the quadrennial Democratic National Convention.

Around the World

You can get involved no matter where you live through online programs that include webinars with left leaning leaders and grassroots organizers, weekly actions, virtual “marches”, and phonebanking to get out the vote among our members.

Democrats Abroad global caucuses — including the Black Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, LGBT Caucus, Progressive Caucus, Women’s Caucus, and Youth Caucus — offer a platform for members with shared identities to raise awareness and advocate for change.

Their role in turning US-based activities into worldwide movements — such as the Women’s March, March for Science and March for Our Lives  — is a critical part of what we do, helping to raise awareness for Americans abroad and the issues we continue to fight for.

Every four years Democrats Abroad also holds a global primary to help decide the presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, and we proudly cast our votes at the Democratic National Convention!

Vote from Abroad

Dear fellow Americans living abroad,

Don’t let your distance silence our democracy. Please register to vote, you need to do it every election year!  The online NON PARTISAN voter registration tool – votefromabroad.org – makes it easy to request a ballot and vote absentee from any place on the planet.

You just need your social security number & your last US address (Even if you no longer have any ties to that address). In most cases you’ll be able to complete the entire process, including signing your form, on your phone in just a few minutes.

When you submit your request using votefromabroad.org  you are signaling to your local election office that you are an overseas voter and are guaranteed special privileges, such as receiving your ballot by email 45 days prior to the election, and in some states extended time to return your ballot. You will also receive a ballot in 2024 for every election you are eligible to vote.
