What Residents and Expats Need to Know
Milan authorities have confirmed a series of temporary street closures and access restrictions linked to official Winter Olympics events taking place in early February. The measures form part of a city-wide security and mobility plan approved by the Prefecture of Milan and will affect several central areas, major venues, and surrounding neighborhoods.
According to the official plan, traffic restrictions will be implemented around key locations including La Scala / Palazzo Marino, San Siro Stadium, Palazzo Reale, Triennale, Corso Sempione, and Olympic-related venues such as MICO–Fiera Milano, CityLife, and Assago. Closures vary by event but generally include vehicle bans, parking suspensions, removal of shared mobility services, and, in some cases, restrictions on pedestrian access during high-security time windows.
The most significant disruptions are scheduled between 2–6 February, coinciding with institutional events, ceremonies, and international delegations. In several areas, surface public transport operated by ATM will also be suspended or rerouted, while metro stations may experience temporary closures or controlled access.
Residents, commuters, and businesses in affected zones are advised to plan ahead, rely on public transport where possible, and check local signage for real-time updates. Commercial activities within restricted perimeters may face limited access during specific hours, depending on the event and security level.
These measures are temporary and designed to ensure public safety during Olympic-related events. Normal traffic circulation will be restored progressively once each event concludes.
