The year of the Fire Horse!

The Lunar New Year is not on a fixed date but it varies according to the lunar calendar, falling usually between January and February. It marks the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. In 2026, the new year will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17. This year will be the year of the Fire Horse (or Red Horse): it is the seventh sign of the zodiac and symbolizes dynamism, determination, energy, passion and courage.

Here are a few ideas for things to do in Milan for the Chinese New Year!

The Dragon Parade in Milan

Even though the New Year is on February 17, this year the traditional Dragon Parade is scheduled for March 1. The parade is a wonderful show of dance, music, traditional costumes, and acrobatics, featuring the great dragon, a symbol of good luck and prosperity.

Where: the parade starts from Piazza Sempione – Arco della Pace
When: March 1, starting at 2 pm

Lantern Festival

The event that concludes the New Year celebrations is the Lantern Festival. The traditional red lanterns light up Via Paolo Sarpi and the  surrounding streets, creating a unique atmosphere of tradition and conviviality.

Where: Via Paolo Sarpi and surroundings
When: March 3
