Alma Matters – Sound Healing

(see featured image)

What it is:
A holistic centre and training school offering sound-based therapies rooted in traditional practices.

Experience:
Just moments from Porta Venezia, Alma Matters has a distinctly authentic feel. It’s one of the few places in Milan where uninterrupted relaxation feels genuinely possible.

My Tibetan singing bowl treatment was led by sound healer Manuele Blardone, whose approach is calm and grounding. During the session, bowls are placed along the body and gently activated, allowing vibrations to move through different areas.

The experience is deeply meditative—less a physical treatment and more a way to support mental stillness. The hour passes quickly, leaving a noticeable sense of lightness and clarity that’s difficult to achieve on your own.

Best for: Stress reduction, mental reset, meditation support

Price range: Private Tibetan bowls treatment from €100

Carlo Barbieri – Acupuncture

What it is:
A medical approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine combining diagnosis with acupuncture treatment.

Experience:
What it is:
A medical approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine combining diagnosis with acupuncture treatment.

Experience:
The practice of Carlo Barbieri takes a more clinical, no-frills approach. A trained medical doctor specialising in Traditional Chinese Medicine, his work combines scientific precision with a holistic view of the body.

Consultations are thorough and unhurried, exploring not just symptoms but patterns across lifestyle, stress, digestion, and sleep. Dr Barbieri is himself an epitome of calm, good spirit and wellbeing so just the conversation with him can uplift you.

The acupuncture itself is subtle: ultra-fine needles placed along meridian points which Barbieri chooses effortlessly (including on my head), with minimal sensation but a noticeable shift as the body begins to relax.

Dr Barbieri is also known for Aculifting, a natural anti-ageing treatment using fine needles across the face to stimulate collagen and circulation. The results are gradual — skin appears fresher and more rested rather than artificially altered. My face definitely felt more relaxed and open after it. Overall, the focus with acupuncture is long-term: a measured, cumulative approach to restoring balance rather than quick results.

Best for: Long-term balance, stress management, preventative care

Price range: Acupuncture session from €120-130

Roberta Boara – Reflexology

What it is:
Chinese foot reflexology (On Zon Su method), mapping the body through pressure points in the feet.

Experience:
Roberta Boara’s work reflects a combination of precision and sensitivity. Movements are slow and deliberate, guided as much by touch as by technique. The method maps the entire body through the feet, stimulating points linked to different organs and systems.

I’m used to more intense foot massages and I like them that way, so at first I was a little unsure about the treatment as it was quite light with. But turns out, that’s exactly what I needed; as the treatment progressed, my body softened, my mind got quieter, and the overall effect felt both physical and emotional — a simple but effective way to reset and rebalance.

After the treatment Roberta shared her observations about my health after “reading” my feet which were very profound and went very deep, and spot on. I left not only feeling much lighter but also with a lot of food for thought. Definitely the one to do on repeat.

Best for: Gentle reset, stress release, body awareness

Price range: Reflexology session €60 – €90

Ayurvedic Point – Ayurveda

What it is:
A specialised centre dedicated to traditional Ayurvedic medicine and treatments.

Experience:
Ayurvedic Point is one of Milan’s most established centres dedicated to traditional Ayurveda, operating as both a clinic and a training school. The approach is structured and medical rather than spa-like, focusing on long-term balance. Every time I come here I feel like I’m back in India, the birth place of Ayurveda.

I tried the Sarvanga Abhyanga, a full-body treatment rooted in the South Indian tradition of Kerala. Warm, herb-infused oils are selected based on your constitution and applied through slow, rhythmic movements across the body.

Beyond relaxation, the treatment works on circulation, muscle tension, and the nervous system. The effect builds gradually: the body becomes heavier, the mind quieter. Skin is left nourished, but the main result is internal — a sense of reset and rebalancing. During the treatment you don’t feel like much is happening apart from being soaked in warm oil. But it’s the after-effect that really counts; the sense of relaxation, lightness and renewal you achieve with this treatment is very hard to beat.

Best for: Deep relaxation, nervous system support, long-term wellbeing

Price range: Sarvanga Abhyanga treatment from €100

Katiuscia Morgese – Bowen Method & Essene Therapies

What it is:
A combination of bodywork and energy-based techniques designed to support physical and emotional balance.

Experience:
The work of Katiuscia Morgese sits between bodywork and energy-based practice, with treatments designed to support physical, emotional, and energetic balance.

She offers a variety of holistic disciplines, skilfully combining and personalising them when working with a client.

We started with a consultation, during which she shared her understanding of the weak points in my body – she tuned into me even before we met, intuitively feeling what my needs are. And it matched my actual situation entirely.

My treatment was a combination of two treatments – the Bowen method and Essene therapies.

The Bowen technique uses small, precise movements with pauses in between, allowing the body to respond and self-regulate. There’s little pressure, but a noticeable calming effect on the nervous system.

The Essene therapies, on the other hand, introduce a more introspective layer, combining oils, sound, and energy work. The focus shifts from physical treatment to a broader sense of reconnection and emotional release.

Together, the two approaches created a very balanced experience — grounding, subtle, and restorative. I left feeling like a new person.

Best for: Stress regulation, emotional reset, holistic balance

Price range: Personalised treatment from €70

Centro Equilibri Milano – Celtic Massage

What it is:
A naturopathic treatment inspired by Celtic traditions, combining light touch and symbolic elements.

Experience:
Elena Filippi is a naturopath with international training including time spent in Japan specialising in reflexology and preventive therapies. She offers a range of wellbeing treatments but her Celtic massage really stands out as one of the more unique treatments on offer.

Inspired by ancient Druidic traditions, it’s less about muscular work and more about energy and inner alignment. The technique combines slow, flowing movements with light, rhythmic touch, guiding the body into a deeply relaxed, almost meditative state.

A distinctive element of the Celtic massage is its ritualistic beginning. Before the treatment starts, you’re invited to intuitively choose a rune — an ancient Celtic symbol, each carrying its own meaning and energetic quality. This chosen rune then becomes the thread of the session, subtly guiding the intention and flow of the massage. The treatment itself becomes a response to the symbolic message — whether grounding, releasing, or opening. It adds a layer of quiet introspection to the experience, turning the massage into something more personal and reflective, rather than purely physical.

What makes the experience distinctive is its introspective quality. Rather than focusing purely on physical release, the treatment feels like a quiet inward journey — tensions soften, breathing deepens, and there’s a subtle sense of emotional unwinding. It’s gentle, but not superficial; the effect is grounding and surprisingly expansive at the same time. This is not a one-size-fits-all massage, but part of a wider philosophy that looks at the person as a whole — body, mind, and energy — with the aim of restoring a deeper, more lasting sense of balance.

Best for: Deep relaxation, introspection, stress release

Price range: Celtic Massage from €70
