UK participation at Expo presents a special opportunity to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday
The UK National Day will be celebrated at Milan Expo on 17 June. It marks the official birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It will be a “GREAT” day linked to the British Government’s GREAT Britain campaign. This will continue for the whole Expo semester with a Global Business Program which encompasses a series of GREAT Weeks in Milan and other worldwide events for businesses, policy makers and influencers. On 17 June we will highlight some of the UK’s contributions to the global challenge and main Expo theme of Feeding the Planet. It will be addressed not through producing more food, but through more creative thinking, smarter logistics, technology and increased international collaboration. The UK is a world leader in contributing to solutions across all these areas. This is the message we have brought to Expo.
The staggeringly beautiful UK Pavilion (www.ukpavilion2015.com) is a symbol of UK creativity and innovation which pays tribute to the role of the bee in food pollination. It is getting a fantastic response, attracting over 10,000 visitors daily. Through a cultural and business program on 17 June, the UK aims to continue to surprise and entertain international visitors, as well as engage businesses globally in the UK offer and drive a sustainable approach. Using live performance, music and video the UK will hold short performances, every hour on the hour, which through drama and dance will bring UK at Expo themes to life. Three acts will highlight how the UK has built a reputation for being a welcoming, diverse and open nation, and how its innovations are a contribution to food sustainability.
In addition, tastings of regional sustainable and protected foods will offer an authentic slice of the British countryside. In June and during the whole Expo period some of the UK’s top chefs will be demonstrating the best of UK food and drink. On National Day world-renowned chef Anton Mosimann will curate a special menu. He is also the man behind the terrace restaurant of our UK Pavilion, which serves some of the finest UK dishes using fresh regional ingredients, prepared with a modern twist.
As the sun sets at Expo, we invite visitors to the UK Pavilion terrace, for music and entertainment, during an enchanting British summer evening. A fitting celebration for a Royal Birthday.
