CIG Arcigay Milano Announces Milano Pride Month

On the occasion of World Day Against Homophobia, CIG Arcigay Milano announces Milano Pride Month

Milan, 17 May 2023.  “ILGA, the international and non-governmental organization that fights for the safety and rights of the LGBTQ+ community in Europe and Central Asia, has published the Rainbow Map that highlights the conditions of LGBTQ+ people in 49 European countries starting from categories such as hate crime, discrimination, legal recognition, family, political asylum and civil space.   Unfortunately, also this year, Italy is positioned at the bottom  of the ranking – 34th place – even  behind Orban’s Hungary. This is not surprising: in the last year, we have witnessed an unprecedented attack on LGBTQ+ people by the Government, which persists in not recognizing the rights of thousands of citizens. ” Comments Alice Redaelli, President of CIG Arcigay Milan.

These are just some of the reasons why it will be important to take to the streets and participate in the initiatives of Milan Pride 2023.  “This year we decided that one week is not enough, so we take the whole month. The Pride Month 2023 will be an inclusive event and comparison with events, talks, exhibitions, meetings and, of course, the final parade on Saturday, 24 June.  The route from the Central Station to the Arco della Pace is confirmed with a great closing event with activists, associations, institutions and performances of artists who support the LGBTQ+ community.  On 22 and 23 June, Pride Square also returns to the Porta Venezia district. Three squares with a festival of events for debates, talks, initiatives and meetings on the main themes of this edition.

Milan Pride Month is dedicated to rights and against all kinds of discrimination for a more equitable and inclusive society. This is the mission of CIG Arcigay Milano which every year offers services and activities open to the whole city and in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

“This year’s initiatives of Milano Pride will inevitably be influenced by the social and historical context in which we find ourselves. The data from our helpline and our legal and psychological support desks are alarming and we have seen a dizzying increase in requests. ” Alice Redaelli continues.  “A scenario that is a symptom of new needs of our community and of a right to live a full and serene life, which must become a political and social priority. “
