Covid -19: Local Red Zones in Lombardy
(MILAN) – With the rise of new cases and new coronavirus variants local lockdown restrictions have been instated in 4 cities of Lombardy.
Four cities of Lombardy have been classified as “RED ZONES,” meaning there are more stringent lockdown restrictions and rules for those cities. Roadblocks are in place limiting entrance and exit to these areas:
- Viggiù (VA)
- Mede (PV)
- Castrezzato (BS)
- Bollate (MI)
The four municipalities will remain “closed” from February 17, 2021 at 6 PM until February 24, 2021. The president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana established this with an regional order due to clusters of new Covid variants spreading throughout the region.

“❌❌❌ CORONAVIRUS, PRESIDENT FONTANA SIGNS ORDER FOR ‘RED BAND’ IN VIGGIÙ, MEDE, CASTREZZATO AND BOLLATE, ALSO CLOSED ALL SCHOOLS.In relation to the emergence of contagion clusters, linked to the spread of variants of the virus, the President of the Region – after consulting the Minister of Health – pursuant to art. 3 of the dpcm January 14, 2021, established with an order that in the municipalities of Viggiù (VA), Mede (PV), Castrezzato (BS) and Bollate (MI), the provisions foreseen in the so-called ‘red band’ will be applied, already observed a few weeks ago throughout the region, starting from 6 pm tomorrow Wednesday 17 February.
In addition, the ordinance provides that the school and teaching activities of all primary and secondary school classes in these municipalities are carried out exclusively at a distance. This suspension also applies to kindergartens and nursery schools. The ordinance is valid until Wednesday 24 February.”
Other cities in Italian regions are also subject to “closures” such as in Abruzzo in the provinces of Chieti and Pescara in RED and the rest of the region in ORANGE. In Umbria, lockdown measures have been introduced for the entire province of Perugia and some municipalities in the Ternano area. Travel to and from the province of Ancona in the Marche region is limited until February 20, 2021. Roccagorga a town of about 4 thousand inhabitants in the province of Latina, Lazio is also in the red zone. On February 8, 2021, twenty-eight municipalities of Lower Molise have also been classified as red zones.
