Every first Sunday of the month, Milan opens its door to art enthusiasts, history lovers, or just curious individuals with free entry to every civic and national museum. The initiative was launched by the Ministry of Culture 10 years ago in an attempt to convert the museum space into a public access site to Italy’s vibrant history and culture, open to citizens and tourists alike.  Their mission is to eventually integrate this enterprise daily, converting Milan into a global and public city. As the ministry recognizes the international influence emerging within the country, they want to allow everyone to access these cultural locations.

The participating museums span a diverse range of sectors, making it a great occasion to discover more of Milan. Visitors can wander from the halls of Pinacoteca di Brera (Brera Art Gallery), home to some of the greatest masterpieces of Italian and foreign art from the 13^th to the 20^th century, or explore Castello Sforzesco (Sforzesco Castle Museum), located in a medieval fortification built in the 15^th century. The Museo del Novecento and many more offer captivating experiences for those eager to explore Milan’s cultural heritage. The initiative is not only constrained to museums but also offers inclusive child-friendly spaces, such as the Civic Aquarium in Milan, which is a great opportunity to take your family exploring!
