Mariangela Zappia, Italian Ambassador to the United States & AmCham Honorary President
Mariangela Zappia has been appointed as the first female Italian Ambassador to the United States of America. Mariangela Zappia, 61, will be the new ambassador in Washington D.C., a key role for relations between Italy and the United States.
Zappia had already made history as the first Italian woman to hold the position as ambassador to NATO in 2014, and in 2018 she became the first woman in 70 years to represent Italy at the United Nations. Her diplomatic career began in 1983 and she has served as diplomatic advisor to three presidents of the council, Matteo Renzi, Paolo Gentiloni and Giuseppe Conte.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Italy (AmCham) has named her Honorary President and are working together to towards further strengthening the strong bond between Italy and the United States.
