Welcome to New US Consul General, Elizabeth Lee Martinez
Elizabeth Lee Martinez began her assignment in October 2017 as Consul General in Milan, covering northern Italy. She is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor.
Before assuming her present duties Ms. Martinez served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Kingston, Jamaica from 2013 to 2016. Her previous assignments include Director of the Office of Canadian Affairs (2011-2013) and Deputy Director in the Office of the Special Envoy to Sudan (2009-2011). From 2006-2009, Ms. Martinez was Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her earlier overseas assignments include Casablanca, Morocco; and San Salvador, El Salvador and Nassau, The Bahamas. She has also served in the Secretary’s Office as Director of the Executive Secretariat Staff and as Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State.
A native of Ohio, Ms. Martinez holds a BA in International Studies from Miami University and M.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University
