Democrats Abroad Italy Meets in Milan
Americans Living in Italy Advocate Moving from Apathy to Activism
Democrats Abroad Italy is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from May 26 -27, 2018 at Hotel Raffaello in Milan. Leadership and members of Democrats Abroad Italy meet regularly to organize, outreach and strategize ways to assist Americans living in Italy to vote in the U.S. elections and encourage them to participate in the American political process.
The theme of this year’s AGM is “Apathy to Activism”. Democrats Abroad Italy is a key organizer of events and marches held in Italy, including March for Our Lives and the Women’s March, and this energy is what drives increased activism. The keynote speaker at the AGM, Akilah R. Ensley, Co-Chair of the Democratic National Committee’s Youth Coordinating Council, will leverage this energy and address issues that include engaging young voters in Democratic Party organizations. As a political advocate and community organizer, Ms. Ensley is instilled with a passion for service and a commitment to voter protection and engagement.
Participants in the AGM will take home tools and information they can use in their local chapters to increase the awareness and responsiveness of their U.S. government officials and elected representatives to the concerns of Americans living abroad. There are three Democrats Abroad Italy chapters, Milan, Florence and Rome, and a recently formed precinct in Turin.
Democrats Abroad is the official arm of the Democratic Party of the United States, working as a state party for U.S. citizens living abroad. The mission of Democrats Abroad Italy is to represent and serve U.S. citizens living in Italy who support the principles of the Democratic Party.
