Dance Scottish!
For fun, fitness and friendship

We are the Milan Scottish Country Dancers, a group of around forty-five people of all ages and various nationalities, who meet once a week from September through to June to learn and practise Scottish Country Dancing.

We run three courses:
L1: for beginners, on Mondays from 19.30 to 21.00 in Via Solferino 17 (Brera), run by Sara
L2: for intermediate dancers, on Mondays from 21.00 to 23.00 in Via Solferino 17 (Brera), run by John
L3: for experienced dancers, on Wednesdays from 20.45 to 23.00 in Via Ettore Ponti 17 (Barona), run by Tom

For newcomers, we are organising an Open Day on Monday, 12 September from 19.20 in Via Solferino.
There is no charge, but please call Sara in advance on 348 0851932 to say that you would like to attend, so that we have an idea of numbers. Remember to bring flat shoes and a flask of water. Sara will explain what Scottish Country Dancing is all about and what the course in meant to achieve.

If you like the idea, sign up and come the following Monday, 19 September at 19.30.

Joining our Association costs €30 for 12 months (newcomers pay €15 to 31 December), which includes basic insurance for sports injuries. Each course then costs €60 (€80 for L3). You can pay cash or by debit/credit card. We prefer a card.

L2 will also start on 19 September at 21.00, whereas L3 will start on 14 September at 20.45.
Each course lasts for 10 lessons and it is important that you come regularly because each lesson consists of 2-3 dances that form part of the dance programme of an event that will take place at the end of the course.

For example:
26 November St Andrew’s Night
28 January Burns Night
TBA (June 3 to June 17)  Milan Highland Ball

As well as informal dance parties known as ceilidhs.

We also take part in SCD events organised by other groups in Italy or abroad, Scotland in particular (though SCD is danced all over the world). Over the coming year, we hope to attend one or more of the following:

3 December Aberfeldy Highland Ball, Blair Castle (Blair Atholl, Scotland)
10 December RSCDS Edinburgh Christmas Ball (Edinburgh, Scotland)
28 April-1 May RSCDS Workshop and Ball (Marostica, Italy)

So do join us. You don’t need to come with a partner as couples are formed for each dance. Nor do you need any previous dance experience (though it does help if you have a sense of rhythm!). You will need a medical certificate for non-competitive sport to attend the course, but not for the Open Day.

As regards anti-Covid precautions, at the time of writing we don’t know what conditions will be like in September, but we tend to take a cautious approach. Bring a mask and gel in any case.
