Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
ROMEO AND JULIET BY SHAKESPEARE
Adaptation and direction by Anna Zapparoli
Music by Mario Borciani
Two English actors on stage telling the most beautiful love story of all time. All the young characters in the tragedy (Juliet, Romeo, Mercutio, Tybalt) are portrayed by Benedetta Borciani as she challenges Shakespeare’s verse, seamlessly dancing from a duel to a kiss to a dream. It is a remarkable performance by the actress, gently supported by the narrative thread crafted by Beniamino Borciani (Chorus/Old Capulet/Nurse/Friar Laurence), who plays the older characters who are completely unaware of the tragedy unfolding. A 70-minute adaptation that captures the beauty of Shakespeare’s verse, appealing to both those familiar with English and, thanks to the Italian overtitles, to those experiencing a play in the original language for the first time.
Mario Borciani’s music adds a touch of wizardry – combining Renaissance and Baroque music and electronic instrumentation.
